Salvation Army Kettle Campaign kicks off in Corner Brook with a goal to raise $105,000

    Major Brian Wheeler says $108,000 was raised last year, 669 local families received  Christmas hampers and 395 children had toys.

    The Salvation Army Kettle Campaign kicked off in Corner Brook yesterday but the fundraising goal is a little less than last year’s. This year’s goal is to raise $105,000. Major Brian Wheeler says the kettle is a traditional part of Christmas, ever since 1925 in Corner Brook. He says one in five struggle to cover basic needs. Major Wheeler says $108,000 was raised last year and 669 local families received   Christmas hampers and 395 children had toys. Less than 4 years ago, the Salvation Army raised just over 80,000, and Major Wheeler says  the increase in support from the community has been phenomenal.
