Schizophrenia; the earlier it's diagnosed, the better the outcomes

    Early signs are much like teenage angst behaviour and it affects young people..

    Schizophrenia is a chronic brain disorder that affects about 1% of the global population. In NL, about five thousand people have been diagnosed. Susan Hyde, Executive Director of the Schizophrenia Society of NL. She says there are different symptoms that include delusions and hallucinations. Last week was Mental Health Awareness and Hyde was a special guest on Bayfm’s The Plain Truth. She says the earlier people can get diagnosed, the better the outcomes. Hyde says early signs are much like teenage angst behaviour. Hearing things or seeing things are signs to get assessed by a psychiatrist. Schizophrenia is tough to diagnose as certain criteria needs to be met.
