Several west coast fire departments get funding under the Wildfire Community Preparedness Day Award

    They are the Corner Brook Regional Fire Department, Deer Lake Fire Rescue and the HIS Fire department in Irishtown-Summerside

    Three west coast fire departments are among 44 in the province to receive funding under the Wildfire Community Preparedness Day Award. They are the Corner Brook Regional Fire Department, Deer Lake Fire Rescue and the HIS Fire department in Irishtown-Summerside. This is also an increase from 13 recipients in 2024 and 10 in 2023.  Wildfire Community Preparedness Day occurs annually on the first Saturday of May.  Each recipient receives $500 to support local projects aimed at reducing wildfire risks through education, mitigation activities, and community involvement.
