The YMCA of Western Newfoundland is still taking people for their Employment Steps to Success program. Spokesperson Ashley Christopher says it provides employment training and support for those age 18 and older, enabling them to gain confidence, understand interests and values, while attaching themselves to the workforce. She says they also have an advocate on their sides to help them navigate through what can be daunting at times. To qualify for the program applicants must be at least 18, can’t be receiving employment insurance but can be on income support. They have space for 12 and are about halfway full and when full, Christopher says they will start filling spaces for a fall session. The first round of the Employment Steps for Success ended in March.
