Riverside Drive was closed on April 2nd after a landslide and work has been ongoing at the site to make it safe to open.
The city of Corner Brook opened Riverside Drive yesterday on a temporary basis to allow a backlog of traffic through the Trans Canada Highway. The area was closed on April 2nd after a landslide and work has been ongoing at the site to make it safe to open. Yesterday, a tanker overturned and spilled a massive amount of oil on the TCH near the Lewin Parkway. Businesses in the area were evacuated and the TCH closed due to the risk of fire and explosion. Corner Brook Mayor Jim Parsons says they had hoped to open Riverside Drive this Friday and while it is stable they still have some work left to do. He says had this happened a few days ago, they would not have been able to open Riverside Drive.
