August 12th will be a special day in the Bay of Islands. Sherry Dean, Ward Councillor for Corner Brook with Qalipu First Nations, is also the chairperson of the Elmastukwek Mawio’mi planning committee. She says August 12th will have their 2nd annual Elmastukwek Mawio’mi. “Elmastukwek is the Mi’kmaq word for Bay of Islands and Corner Brook, “ she says. “We decided last year that this would be an annual event to embrace Mi’kmaq culture.” The event will take place at Blow me down ski park with a sunrise ceremony starting at 6 a.m. followed by breakfast.
