Founder of Corner Brook radio station CKWK, later KIXX Country, passes away

    In 1984, Alex J. Walling founded CKWK 1340AM in Corner Brook which later became CKXX (Kixx Country) then CKXX-FM (K-Rock).

    An important figure in radio passed away over the weekend. Alex J. Walling founded CKWK 1340AM in Corner Brook which later became CKXX (Kixx Country) then CKXX-FM (K-Rock), in 1984. Walling went on to start a FM station in Liverpool, Nova Scotia and a broadcast journalism school in Halifax known as the Atlantic Media Institute. Originally from Quebec City, Walling started his career at a newspaper there at the age of 17. He had spent over 50 years as a broadcaster.

    Walling was 77.
