Two men have been convicted for salmon poaching after a tip from the public.

Roy Jacobs and Robert Ricketts appeared in Grand Falls Provincial court a few weeks ago. The Westport men were convicted for unlawfully fishing for salmon by means of a net. Fisheries officers caught up with the men on July 6th of last year and seized an 18-foot boat and motor. Both men received a $3,000 fine and a conditional prohibition of being on coastal waters for a period of three years.
