Minister Gerry Byrne also made nearly $6 million available to support marketing within the fishery.

As Canada faces potential tariffs by the U.S., representatives in the NL fisheries, forestry and agriculture roundtables are showing unprecedented unity and resolve as they plan for action. The Minister responsible for the three sectors recently hosted the roundtables. Gerry Byrne also made nearly $6 million available to support marketing within the fishery. He met with representatives from the sawmill and paper industries, for a wide-ranging discussion on diversifying markets with expansion into Europe.  As well, while most food produced in Newfoundland and Labrador is consumed locally, there is great potential for growth. Byrne says “The people who work in our renewable resource sectors – fisheries, forestry and agriculture – are facing a challenge of historic proportion. They face this challenge head on, with great courage, and a collective resolve to overcome.”
