Xavier House in Corner Brook provides a home for some who suffer with mental illness. A not for profit organization, Xavier House staff work to making each day a little better for their 32 residents. Team lead Gerard Duffney has worked there for years and has held auctions, yard sales and fundraisers, but an idea he had is about to take the city by surprise. The Xavier House Thrift Boutique is located at 88 Broadway in the former Village Music location. Donna Luther says opening day will be next week on Wednesday, November 13th at 10 a.m. Duffney says debit and credit cards or cash can be used and they have quite a variety of clothes, household items, and more. Residents who work at the Thrift Store will be paid ten dollars an hour and will work four hour shifts. Luther says this really gives them a purpose. She says residents only get $150 a month for a comfort allowance, but under the program they can make more money through the work they do.
