Qalipu Today
Thursday, 23 November 2023 - 24 minutes
Speak from the Heart, Learn from the Heart and See others as doing the best that they can. These were the guiding principles presented to some 170 students, partners and educators at the opening of the First Annual Mi’kmaw Leadership and Learning Gathering that took place November 6-7 in Gander.
Students Windell Smith and Madison Bartlett were at the gathering where they hosted a student-led session based on a film project they’d been part of. They’ll join us on November 21 on Qalipu Today to talk about their experiences at the gathering.
The students will be joined by Paul Pike, Cultural Outreach Officer, who was also at the conference representing the Band. Qalipu was one of four partners including the Newfoundland English School District, Miawpukek First Nation and the Mi’kmaw Cultural Foundation, that brought this gathering to life.
