American Eel was listed as a species of special concern in 2006 and became a threatened species in 2012. It is currently listed under the vulnerable category on the NL Endangered Species Act.

The Environment and Natural Resources Department of Qalipu First Nation have recently begun a new study on America Eel. This study aims to set up permanent sample plots in Muddy Hole, Flat Bay. These samples will help to establish a long-term temporal abundance study to look at population numbers and health, which will inform conservation efforts for the American Eel.

Learn more about this study and the American Eel from Natural Resource Technicians, Julia and Byron on the upcoming show of Qalipu Today.
